Featured is a genuine Mexican Fire Opal. Mexican opals are unique in the world of the opals. It is in Mexico that the most significant fire opal deposits in the world lie. Rock strata containing opals run through the Mexican highlands, with their many extinct volcanoes. Mexican Opals are formed in white to soft-tone brown "potch" and are known for their beautiful orange crystals. Mexican Fire Opals can also come in many shades of warm colors like, soft-clear, orange, reddish-brown, yellow and red-cherry. This particular gemstone is a translucent dark to light orange color. For size comparison, this specimen is featured (using tack putty) on top of a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" clear acrylic base, which is included FREE with the purchase of this gem.
