Item Description
Featured is a genuine Ammolite. Ammolite is a rare and valuable opal-like organic gemstone found primarily in Canada. It is made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, which in turn are composed primarily of aragonite, the same mineral that makes up nacreous pearls. In 1981, ammolite was given official gemstone status by the World Jewellery Confederation, the same year commercial mining of ammolite began. It was designated the official gemstone of the Province of Alberta in 2004. Because the shell is fragile, it is backed with black iron stone, so that it can be used in jewelry, This particular gemstone has fantastic color play, that is primarily green, with some pinpoints of red fleck. Pattern looks like reptile skin. Pictured is the actual gemstone being offered.
