Featured is a genuine Mexican opal matrix cabochon. Mexican opals are unique in the world of the opals. It is in Mexico that the most significant fire opal deposits in the world lie. Rock strata containing opals run through the Mexican highlands, with their many extinct volcanoes. Mexican Opals are formed in white to soft-tone brown "potch" and are known for their beautiful orange crystals. Mexican Fire Opals can also come in many shades of warm colors like, soft-clear, orange, reddish-brown and red-cherry. This particular gemstone has a translucent orange center with a vibrant play of color and "brown potch" around the center.
