Featured are genuine Australian Opals. There are a wide variety of Australian opals, from white based with fire, harlequin patterns, top jelly crystal, to clear. Australian opals are renowned for the play of color and distinct features that make them Australian gems.

Boulder Opals are easy to discern from other types of opals, as one side has the traditional fine opal color, while the reverse has the layer of light/dark brown ironstone, giving them their namesake. In forming, a fine ribbon of colorful opal runs through the vein in the boulder host rock. Because of the thin layer of the opal vein, opal cutters must leave the ironstone on the reverse, leaving it in it's natural state. Boulder Opals should not be confused with opal "doublets" or "triplets," which are more man-created.
